However we all have different preferences so what might be right for one person may not be for you. What is important is that you consider what you will be using your speakers for, how much space you have, and above all what the sound quality is like. Floorstanding Speakers

One of the most common types of speaker, floorstanding speakers are prefect if space is not a consideration. The larger cabinets offered by floorstanding speakers give superior bass making them a fantastic choice for rock music and home cinema. One of the other positives of floorstanding speakers is their efficiency as you can get a much louder sound for the same amount of power than smaller speakers.

Bookshelf Speakers

Bookshelf speakers are essentially a smaller version of floorstanding speakers however due to their smaller size they take up a lot less room. Due to their size, bookshelf speakers have less bass then their taller counterparts and for this reason it is common practice to add a subwoofer. Bookshelf speakers come in a range of different styles and are a popular choice for living rooms as you can match the decor easily or place them discreetly out of the way.

With more people installing home cinema systems, in wall speakers have seen a bit of a surge in popularity in recent times. The benefits of in wall speakers are that they take up no room whatsoever and can be coloured to match your walls meaning they are virtually invisible. In wall speakers also offer decent performance however they do require professional installation which makes them a much more considered purchase.

In-Ceiling Speakers

Similar to in-wall speakers except they are of course in installed overhead. If you are short on space, have low ceilings, or can’t install in-wall speakers then in-ceiling speakers are perfect. In-ceiling speakers can also help enhance your surround sound significantly. Like with in-wall speakers, these can require professional installation.

On-Wall Speakers & Soundbars

These speakers are commonly used to accompany flat panel televisions. Although plasma and LCD TV’s look the part the speakers leave a lot to be desired at times. For this reason on wall speakers a soundbars are a great addition. On wall speakers can offer fantastic sound adding to your viewing experience and are also very pleasing on the eye.
