For many, bathrooms are seen as the lowest priority room in the house as far as decorating is concerned. However consider the fact that it is one of the main rooms that guests get their best impression and you can see why getting the design right is in fact quite important. Not all of us however have the privilege of a large bathroom meaning that you are often restricted when it comes to designing it and getting it wrong can make your bathroom look even smaller. The following therefore are 7 tips you can follow to help make the most out of the little space you have. 1) Don’t Cram it with Furniture It’s all too easy to fill any room with too much decoration however remember that for bathrooms less is definitely more. Keeping ornaments and any other trinkets to a minimum will help give your bathroom a clean and simple look making it appear a lot more spacious 2) Pay Attention to Every Little Detail Compromise unfortunately has to be the key. That fancy and elaborate toilet roll holder or towel rack that you want can easily shrink the appearance of a bathroom and so pay attention to everything and really consider what is necessary. 3) Keep Floors Clear Keeping floors clear will give the perception of a much bigger area. If possible move some items up meaning any shelving you can place is around head height or more (still keeping it in reaching distance mind). Also don’t lave any bath/shower mats on the floor as this again will make the floor space seem smaller. 4) Shower Space Most small bathrooms have shower cubicles these days however one annoying feature of these is the door. Out swinging doors can be intrusive and when left open can make the bathroom look small. If possible choose folding or sliding doors or if you are really flush then a walk in shower! 5) Colour Scheme Dark colours will make your bathroom look a lot smaller so use lighter tones as it will open it up and give a much cleaner look. This is particularly the case for the floor; choosing pale tile colours will make the room appear a lot bigger than it actually is. 6) Use Mirrors It’s an age old trick but still one of the most effective. Placing a large mirror on one of the more lengthy walls will give the illusion the room is a lot bigger. This is also a very inexpensive method and also practical because every bathroom needs a mirror. Careful not to overdo it however as you don’t want to end up with a mirror maze! 7) Leave Towels to a Minimum Too many towels hung from towel racks/hooks etc. will definitely make the room look small. It is much better to have only one or two towels in the bathroom and for people taking a shower etc. to take towels in with them. So there you have it 7 simple yet effective tips. There is lost more you can do however these will certainly get you on your way. It is also worth mentioning that if you are planning on getting a totally new fitted bathroom then it is definitely worthwhile paying for a design consultant who will be able to get the best out of the space available.
