Are Lottery Syndicates A Worthwhile Option?

By: Gavin Evans

It is widely appreciated that a lotto syndicate is about the most sensible way to participate in any lottery if you are looking to enhance your likelihood of sharing the jackpot. As a matter of fact, more than a quarter of all lottery jackpot wins are collected by syndicates. These lotto syndicates are typically formed by groups of work colleagues or friends who have the single aim of boosting their chances of winning the lottery. Working collectively in this manner provides each participant of the syndicate a greater number of winning chances but at the same time making sure expenditure is kept to an affordable level.

Playing as a member of a lottery syndicate can come with a significant odds benefit particularly if the syndicate has a greater quantity of people participating. However, being a syndicate member also has some negative aspects.

The first and probably the most obvious negative aspect of a syndicate is the fact that all winnings are divided between all members of the syndicate equally. Consequently, the more syndicate members there are, the lower the payout each of these members will collect. Owing to this, a considerable lotto syndicate triumph may only create sufficient money for each member to pay for a vacation or a new dining room suite; but certainly not a sufficient amount to pack in the day job and purchase a private jet! If every member is aware of this potential outcome then everybody should be cheerful.

The second problem with lottery syndicates is linked to the point made above. Stories can at times be seen in the media relating to a greedy syndicate member(s) who is loathed to share out the syndicate winnings to colleagues and attempt to keep it all for them self. This can undoubtedly be a massive setback if the syndicate has been set up informally. If this is the set of circumstances, every syndicate member has then got to show in legal terms that they have indeed been duped. There have also been instances where a member of a syndicate has lost their stake of a syndicate payout owing to late or non payment of their syndicate payment. There have been a number of cases where legal action has taken place as a result of this happening.

The third problem that may crop up if no formal syndicate agreement has been put in place is that of inheritance tax issues. If the person in charge of the syndicate collects the winnings and then "gifts" each member their equal share, then this tax could become a reality for every syndicate member.

Occurrences like these can be scaled down hence making everyone"s lives a lot simpler. If the syndicate is put together by utilizing a legally binding lottery syndicate agreement then any of the scenarios mentioned here will become a thing of the past. Such agreements can be downloaded from your lotto provider"s internet site and in many cases can be collected from your lottery retailer.

There isn"t much doubt that the advantages of joining a lotto syndicate easily outweigh any negative issues that may be involved. If the syndicate is put together in a legal manner as mentioned, the only things you genuinely have to be bothered about are paying your syndicate entry fee each week and thinking about what you will do with the money when your lottery syndicate hits the big one.
