It was Plato (Greek philosopher, B.C. 428-347) who said: "The life which is not examined is not worth living." Self-awareness is the ability to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses. If you’re not actively trying to make your life better, you’re not preparing yourself to achieve your goals and the problems in your life are probably getting worse. But how can you make changes for the better if you don’t know what needs improving? From time to time, you have to take an honest look at who you are and what you’re doing. In life, you get your share of bad news, so who wants to open the door for more? You already know you aren’t perfect. Even if you’re willing to face the facts, you probably aren’t a good judge of your own strengths and weaknesses. What’s more, it isn’t easy to find someone willing to tell you the truth about yourself. Successful, happy people know themselves fairly well. They don’t waste their strengths and they aren’t blindsided by their weaknesses. You, too, can use your strengths wisely by being conscious of them. And you can be aware of the weak areas, so you can work on them or work around them. You don’t want to rely on luck. You can be in control, and you can improve your situation if you begin with self-examination and self-awareness.
