Walt Disney said, “There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates’ loot on Treasure Island. And best of all, you can enjoy these riches every day of your life.” Facts. Experiences. Ideas. Insights. Wisdom. All these things are as valuable as wealth. In fact, they lead to wealth—potentially more wealth than any found treasure. And they are found in books. Experience is a great teacher, but people learn more efficiently with the help of books. Those who read can experience more than one life in a lifetime. And books are everywhere. Thanks to libraries and the Internet, most of the content of books is available free. Like a movie or TV program, you hope for entertainment or enlightenment, but many times the value you hope for just isn’t there. It takes time to read a book. And if you can’t borrow it, you have to pay for it. Will it be worth the expense? Often you can read a book and learn only one or two things—sometimes nothing! You know that information is valuable, and that knowledge is power. When you learn, you grow. With knowledge, you gain insights that will help you get what you want. So much of this richness is free that virtually all you have to do is go get it. And don’t let “information overload” scare you. The more you search, the more you learn how to focus on what you want.
