Dreams have fascinated mankind for all of history. There is a traditional view that images in the dreamscape are symbolic, that help us to reveal to ourselves the hidden parts of our personalities of which we are usually unaware. Dreams are like Oracles, They tell us what to do, and help us to see the attitudes and viewpoints that you may not see in your waking life.

Dreams have a function in helping set right the balance of life. Over a period of time they disclose a wider purpose, of promoting emotional health. Dreams help show corrective steps to a detrimental lifestyle, they help set a course of action to well being.

Dreams mean something. To block them out is to deprive you of valuable inner information. Dreams tell a story, they are the path of projections to the psyche rather than the mind. In mental illness Dream understanding can help us better see what is making our lives tick. My personal belief is through proper dream interpretation we can get a better handle on which we are. Understanding our dreams can boost our self-respect, self- assurance, and even our self-esteem. The best plan to understanding our dreams is through a dream journal. Keeping a detailed journal will aid in what your psyche is trying to tell you about forgotten parts of your own life.

All dreams work to accomplish solving the problems of your conscious, waking life and present you with access to new potentials and creativity. Because dreams come from all levels of your being, understanding the imagery and type of dream is the key to understanding and actualizing the messages you receive during sleep.

The symbols express those things for which we have no words. A dream symbol could literally represent itself as well as its possible interpretations. The images and symbols may also represent aspects of your personality. When you begin to reflect on the symbols, always start by registering your first impressions but don't stop with the obvious. Dreams are symbolic representations, not reproductions. The dream images always represent more than themselves, and so the more you work with them, the more you will understand them. Dreams do not come to tell you what you already know. Look at the dream images and symbols as pieces of a puzzle that you can put together only by finding out what they mean to you.

DREAMSCAPE LANGUAGES

Using the language of symbols, emotions, and metaphors. Dreams teach us about the five aspects of our souls. In our dreams, we ourselves represent our ego, which is the center of our consciousness. The way we act in our dreams shows us how we are consciously living our lives.

Dream occurrences happen to all of us whether we recall them or not. These occurrences can range from a pleasant daydream or a horrifying nightmare. But sometimes we have a Dream experience that we merely cannot explain.

RECURRING DREAMS

It is safe to assume that a recurring dream will have something important to say to us about the way we are conducting our waking lives. Or, they can be a warning to something that may happen, or will happen if you follow a particular path in your waking life. It is worthwhile trying to discover what its message is.

Although it may seem that the dream is exactly the same each time it occurs, but in fact this is rarely the case, there are usually small insignificant clues that we may not recognize that change each time. This is very important to put into your detailed Dream Journal. These clues are the details we should pay close attention to, because they hold the clues to the meaning of the dream. These dreams are usually the case of emotional weakness in our nature that can over the years be damaging.

Although the dream may remain the same in its essential elements, in our waking lives it can apply to different sets of circumstances that provoke us to display the same weakness. This type of dream should vanish after you have resolved our original problem.

Nightmares what are they about?

Nightmares are the way in which our subconscious scolds us and says, "pay attention!" Every once in a while we need a wake up call and this is how our mind tries to tell us something is wrong with our inner selves.

Dreams tend to come in a series. After you have recorded a significant amount of dreams, you will begin to see that a certain dream theme was being dealt with for several nights in a row.

Your subconscious will try for a long time to teach your something, but if you just aren't getting it, it may be pulled from the dream curriculum for a period of time.

However, sooner or later, you have to deal with it again, and the dream theme will recur, maybe weeks or months later. These dream themes generally pertain to your waking behavior and your actions and reactions to life experience

Learning to Astral Travel through Dreaming
by Leslee Dru Browning

Astral projection is the act of separating the astral body from the physical body. Normally this occurs as part of the sleep process, usually at the deepest dream level. It also can occur in a trance state. When the person is conscious of this separation it is called conscious astral projection. To be conscious of this act or event is a highly sought after goal.

Through conscious astral projection one is able to remember events occurring during an astral journey. On such journeys the conscious mind traveling within the astral body can explore not only various earthly places, but also different realms within other dimensions. The conscious astral projection can be induced through deep meditative states. Some individuals exit their bodies from the solar plexus area, while others leave from the third eye (see Chakras, particularly the crown), or simply discover themselves looking down from above at their physical body. The experience of traveling while in this astral state can be accomplished by methods such as a dream-like flight or by visualization the destination that the individual wishes to visit.

I find the main reason people never experience astral traveling is due to fear. Fear that they will be harmed, fear of not returning, fear of encountering spiritual battles, fear of losing their mind, or fear that someone can take control of their bodies while they are traveling. These are very valid fears. I highly recommend when you first begin astral traveling that you have a lifeline, a person you trust who will sit quietly with you, and watch over you in case you begin to panic. This person will be able to assist in guiding you back home if you need help. If you take it slow, you will lose your fear.

Everybody Dreams

Before you can begin to astral travel, you need to start recalling your dreams. To do this put a piece of blank paper by your bed and a pen. Tell yourself before retiring that you will dream, and that you will remember your dream upon waking. When you begin to stir in the morning, keep your eyes closed and lay still for a few minutes to see if you are able to recall anything you may have dreamt. No matter how insignificant it may seem write it down. You may have seen a color, or a flower, or a person, or a rock. Once you recall what it is you saw then write it down and date it. Do this every night. This will be the beginning of your dream journal. It may take you a day to begin remembering your dreams, or it may take a month. But, if you follow this procedure nightly you will begin to recall your dreams. I also recommend that if you need to set an alarm to wake up, use music and not a buzzer. A buzzer is too abrupt and distressing for remembering dreams.

We all astral travel in dream. De-Ja vu is simply something you dreamt of the future, but if you have not kept track of your dreams in a journal, you probably will not recall that you dreamt it ahead of time. Purchase a book on symbols. I recommend "An Illustrated Encyclopedia of Traditional SYMBOLS by J. C. Cooper, 1978, Thames and Hudson Ltd. London". This book is spiritual in nature, and gives the meaning of symbols for almost every belief system. For example, if you dreamt about a dog, this book gives over 15 meanings for the symbol of a dog, each pertaining to a various culture. This is important and why general dream books contain definitions, which do not pertain to some things, or some people. A Christian dreaming of a dog means something entirely different to a Native American dreaming of a dog. I find most people dream in symbols of their own chosen belief system, so unless you understand the right definition, you will not be able to decipher the meanings of your dreams.

Now that you are remembering your dreams keep your daily journal up to date, and leave a fair amount of space between each dream for making later entries on what the dream may have actually meant. Use the symbol book to see if you can decipher your dreams. If something happens in your life that pertains to one of your dream, know that you were astral traveling in your sleep and glimpsed your future. Enter this below your prophetic dream. This will also help you discover you own personal dream symbols. For example, I have a few psychic friends; we all have prophetic dreams; yet we each have completely different symbols for the same meanings. You need to discover yours.

Once you are dreaming and recalling your dream, and maybe even dreaming future events, you will be more comfortable with the idea of astral traveling while you are awake, because at this point you are already doing it while sleep.

Astral Traveling While Awake

Dress in loose clothing then find a comfortable place to either sit back or lay down. Have the lighting in the room set low. Remove a watch if you are wearing one. Quiet is very important, so make sure you are in a location where you do not need to worry about loud and abrupt noises.

Have someone in the room with you in case you need a lifeline. A lifeline is someone you trust and who will sit quietly with you watching for signs that you may need help coming back, or who can gently awaken you to a normal state if you are panicking.

Close your eyes. Relax your body. Begin by concentrating on your toes, stretch and release them, then stretch and release your legs, continue to do this to your entire body until you have worked up to the crown of your head. Quiet your mind and slow down your breathing. Deep, slow breathing will put you in a state of complete relaxation.

By now you should be in a meditative state. Concentrate on any image that may come into your mind. Allow the image to expand and flow. It will eventually take on movement, followed by other images, and soon it will seem as like you are watching a movie. Stay calm and let the images move by, they will not hurt you, it is just a movie. As you watch the movie you will deepen your state of relaxation. See if you can clear your mind. Observe your field of vision through your closed eyes. Do nothing except for looking through your closed eyelids. You may see light patterns, which will eventually disappear to make room for seeing out of your third eye. At this point you will be seeing images with your intuitive eye only. By now you should be completely unaware of your body, which is the state, you need to be in before you can leave your body.

Now that your are completely relaxed and unaware of your body you will enter a state of vibration. This is the most important part of astral traveling because everything is a vibration. You may feel mild tingling, or electrical sensations, or a shooting of energy through your crown Chakra. This is where you will begin to leave your body.

Begin with just allowing a little separation of yourself emerges from your crown Chakra. You need to be able to control your vibration state. Practice by allowing some energy to flow out of your crown, and then bring it back in and push it down to your toes. Practice doing this -energy in, energy out, until you feel you can master and control your spiritual body. Once you have learned to control this vibrational state, you will be ready to leave your body entirely and astral travel with complete confidence that you are in control, and can return back into your body whenever you so desire.

Now you are ready to dissociate yourself from your body, leaving through your crown Chakra. To do this think about getting lighter and lighter after you have entered your vibration state. Think of yourself flying through the air. Imagine how wonderful it would be to float upward into the sky. Let no other thoughts enter your mind. At this point you should have an OBE. It should occur completely naturally. Now, once you are out of your body, and since this is the first time you are out, explore something close, like another room in your home. After you are able to explore a few rooms of your house come back to where your body lies in a state of pure relaxation and enter back into it.

I suggest baby steps. Keep your first astral explorations close to home and about 5 minutes in length. With each additional astral travel venture out a little farther than you traveled before. Once you become adept in your travels, and all your fear is gone, then you will be able to travel anywhere. Just think of a place and you will be there. Keep a journal of your travels; they are fun to read through at later dates

Astral Body
Chakra
Astral Body is the spiritual, ether-like counterpart of the physical body. The body is composed of astral material and is an exact energy duplication of the physical form that it encompasses. This energy body is attached to the physical body, usually at the naval, by a silver-like cord. The astral body accompanied by the mind is capable of travel during period in which the physical body sleeps. Such an act is referred to as "astral projection."

Chakra is Sanskrit for "wheel." Chakras are described as being shaped like multicolored lotus petals or spoke wheels which whirl at various speeds as they process energy. The seven basic etheric chakras are the root, the sacral, the solar plexus, the heart, the throat, the brow, and the crown.

1. The root- (muladhara) is located at the base of the spine and is the seat of the kundalini. It is concerned with self-preservation, one’s animal nature, taste, and smell. It is the least complex of all of the chakras, and is just divided by four spokes. Its color is orange-red.

2. The sacral- (svadhisthana) lies near the genitals and govern sexuality and reproduction. It has six spokes and is primary red. In some systems the root Chakra is ascribed reproductive functions, and the sacral Chakra is overlooked in favor of the spleen Chakra, a rosy pink and yellow sun with six spokes located half way between the pubis and navel, It influences general health, and particularly governs digestion and the functions of the liver, pancreas, and spleen. In other systems the spleen Chakra is seen as minor.

3. The solar plexus- (manipurna) rests just above the navel. It has ten spokes and is predominantly green and light red. It is associated with emotions and is the point where astral energy enters the etheric field. This Chakra affects the adrenals, pancreas, liver, and stomach. Most trance mediums work through the solar plexus.

4. The heart- (anahata) has twelve glowing golden petals and is located midway between the shoulder blades, in the middle of the chest. It governs the thymus gland and influences immunity to disease. It is linked to higher consciousness and unconditional love.

5. The throat- (visuddha) is a sixteen-spoke wheel of silvery blue that is associated creativity, self-expression, and the search for truth. It is predominant in musicians, singers, composers, and public speakers. This Chakra influences the thyroid and parathyroid glands, metabolism, and is associated with certain states of expanded consciousness.

6. The brow- (ajna) located between the eyebrows and sometimes called the third eye because of its influence over psychic sense and spiritual enlightenment. Half of its 96 spokes are radiated in yellow-rose color while the other half are radiated in blue and purple. The Chakra is associated with pituitary gland, the pineal gland, intelligence, intuition, and psychic powers called siddhis in Hindu yoga.

7. The crown- (sahasrara) whirls above the top of the head. Its 972 spokes radiate a glowing purple, the most spiritual of all the colors. It is not associated with any glands, but reveals the person’s conscious evolution. The crown cannot be activated until all of the other chakras are refined and balanced; when activated it brings supreme enlightenment and cosmic consciousness.
While other chakras rotate in slight depressions, the crown Chakra whirls in a dome. At times, in religious art, crown chakras have been portrayed as halos surrounding the heads of deities, saints, and mystics.
