Making A Decision Between Contemporary And Traditional Bathrooms

By: DIY Enthusiast

Whether you’re planning a bathroom design for a new house or thinking of renovating an existing bathroom, you may want to know the difference between a traditional and contemporary bathroom design. Knowing the basic differences in design would allow you to decide which one to implement depending on your lifestyle.

A classic traditional bathroom incorporates all the pieces required for an old-world luxurious bathroom. It is often highlighted by a large bath centerpiece accompanied by classical period furniture from a chosen era. While modern bathrooms are constantly evolving depending on available technologies, traditional bathrooms are known for timeless aesthetic appeal and unique warmth and comfort.

On the other hand, the contemporary bathroom incorporates the latest technology and innovation for better function despite a limited available space. It is often characterized by sharp, clean lines, and minimalist features to create an illusion of a larger space.

From the descriptions above, we can infer that one factor affecting bathroom design choice is space. If you are lucky enough to have a large bathroom space, the traditional design may be the best choice to fully utilize the available space. A typical family with three or more members would want this type of bathroom. A couch and a small table can be added for those who consider the bathroom as a sanctuary from the busy cityscape. For a limited space, the increased functionality of contemporary bathroom pieces is the ideal choice. Condos and apartments of young professionals would choose this type; work keeps them from spending more time at home and the bathroom would only function for basic hygiene needs.

Adventurous homeowners would also want the innovative features of a contemporary bathroom. Especially for tech-lovers, the wow-factor can be achieved by adding motion sensor taps, water-proof LCD television, aromatherapy, and colored chromo therapy lighting.

However, bathrooms need not be ultra high-tech to be creative and exciting. An artistic approach can be made by using classical era pieces like tubs, sinks, rags, and paintings to be hung on the wall. The Edwardian and Victorian bathrooms are among the popular choices for traditional bathrooms. You do not need to strictly stick to one design concept; mixing and matching elements from different traditional designs depending on your preference would add a unique personal touch.

Another bold attempt would be to take the best elements of both designs to come up with one unique bathroom layout. If you have enough budget and you want to make your bathroom extra special, you may experiment on different materials and make your own fusion art. However you choose to build your bathroom, either by doing most yourself or having a home makeover company take care of design and construction, it’s important to carefully consider everything to end up with a design that’s best for you.
