2. ON POSSESSIONS

Are you possessed by your possessions? How many dresses,
ties, homes, cars, jewelry, etc are enough or too much? The
ancient Latins called too many possessions “impedimenta” or
what Julius Caesar, in crossing the Rubicon to take Rome,
called “baggage.” In kindergarten we were taught to eat our
cookie, drink milk, take a nap in the afternoon, and flush.
Just the simple needs in life; food, shelter and clothing.
Saint Mark said, “What shall it profit a man to gain the
whole world and lose his soul?”

The Coach thinks . . . the true riches of life are still the
adventure of the book, a walk on the beach, smelling a rose,
visits with friends, swimming in the ocean. What are the
riches of your soul?

3. ON PERCEIVING VALUES

Value can be an elusive concept. But some studies indicate
that there are six factors that service customers use
to define value:

1. Quality is practically synonymous with value.
This includes good attitudes and responsiveness in
employees, quick service, reliability and flexibility,
consistency, and getting the service done right the first
time.

2. Getting something extra. “Like a real bargain.” For an example

3. Satisfying a customer’s need for cost restraint.

4. Meeting expectations The customer gets what they expect .
. . and more.

5. Company sales people show care and concern , answer
questions, and make customers feel taken care of.

6. Measurement of benefits. When benefits of a service can be
measured, the customers will perceive they are
receiving great value.

4. ON GREAT SPEAKERS

As a speaker bureau owner and now a career coach to
speakers, I have observed that great speakers do the
following: Involve their audience challenge the beliefs of
their audience

1. Involve their audience
2. Challenge the beliefs of their audience
3. Enjoy and value the experience of sharing knowledge from the platform
4. Give more than they expect to receive and usually get much more in return
5. Leave a positive lasting impact on their audience

The Coach sez . . . great speakers get caught up in the
“religion” of their client’s organization.

5. ON LAUGHTER POWER

According to Life Learning, when kids laugh and act silly
they are not only having fun, but they are also training
their brains and practicing their social skills, logical
thinking and creativity. If laughing is a complex activity
that uses many of the same cognitive skills needed for
problem solving, then we adults need to engage ourselves and
others in more laughter and silly behavior to look at
situations from various viewpoint stands to put them into
perspective. A good message here for professional speakers
on how to engage their audiences.
