Others Will Help You Achieve Your Goals

By: Dennis E. Coates, Ph.D.

“A man of humanity is one who, in seeking to establish himself, finds a foothold for others and who, desiring attainment for himself, helps others to attain.” - Confucius (Chinese philosopher, B.C. 551-479)

Cooperation means working well with others to accomplish a common purpose.

The most desirable and important goals in life are usually so challenging that you can’t do them by yourself. Others will be willing to help you, if they see that they’re working on the same goals you are. They’ll be on your side, if you’ve consistently supported them in the past.

It’s not easy to know whose talents you’ll need. And the idea of establishing good will with virtually everyone can seem intimidating. You may be pressed for time to accomplish your own priorities, let alone help others with theirs.

If you help others, they’ll be willing to help you. And you don’t have to say “yes” to every request. Many times, it only takes a few minutes to give what’s needed. You want the affection, gratitude and loyalty of others—not their indifference. All that’s required is a generous heart and a caring frame of mind.
