Pulmonary Embolism Survivor Conveys Important Message In April of 2000, Lisa DuFrense developed a Pulmonary embolism…a blood clot in her lung. Collapsing at the ER window, DuFrense almost died. “I had less than one minute to live.” DuFrense is the author of Near Death at the ER Window. Pulmonary embolism is the leading cause of sudden death in the United States. It s the third leading cause of death resulting in over 200,000 lives lost in the US annually. “When you come that close to death, your life takes on a new perspective. You realize how short life is. I took so much for granted. I wanted more time to savor life and enjoy it.” In a period of five years, DuFrense fully embraced the enjoy life concept, Quitting a 60 hour week plus job, she continued on as a dietitian but slashed her hours to less than 16 per week. . “Everything used to revolve around my work. Now, I have a life. Work is second place to God, my family and friends. I am much more fit…spiritually, mentally and physically.” DuFrense gives presentations on pulmonary embolism and how this experience changed her outlook on life "Spreading the message is important. Not every one can just quit their job….but we can look for creative ways to lessen our stress and enjoy more.” She adds.
