Sensible Spirituality Plan, research and know what forces you are calling upon By Nita Hickok ©2006 I plan to have these articles as a series upon my website. I feel that many of the spiritual problems I deal with and help others with could have been prevented. One of the most common problems with people who do magic is not researching and knowing what forces they are calling upon for help. The number of spirits mentioned by people is amazing. It depends upon what you are studying and are trying to do that will tell you which spirits are appropriate. The people with problems normally are the ones who do not know how to pronounce the God or spirit name. I have seen people use Celtic spirits combined with spirits from India. Most of the spirits from India are Gods that are worshipped in the Hindu religion. They have specific methods on how to call them and what they consider respect. The question is did you research this and know the proper form and method to bring those influences into your life. Are you a practicing Hindu or Druid? Many people can combine Gods that represent the same forces because they know magic and know how to use the system. Yet it is never a good idea to call upon any force unless you understand it. Know both sides of the force whether it is dual natured or not. The first thing people should do is learn the words they say in the spell or ritual and what they mean. Learn how to pronounce the God names and know whether they have a good and bad side. A good resource to do this is Encyclopedia Mythica on the web. I have never seen such an efficient job of identifying and classifying spirits and Gods in one place. They have them listed by culture and continents. It is a great way to find out what the spirits are about by the myths and information about them. The Greek Gods are a good example. Anyone who has read any of the Greek classics or has seen them on television realizes that they get mad if you do not do things properly. They hold grudges and summoning one of them should be done properly if only for this reason alone. I use angels because I understand them and know what they are about because I was raised that way. I know most of the Wicca and Earth Magic spirits because I have practiced Earth magic and learned them and their purposes. I put my faith in God or the Goddess. I know I can not comprehend God or Goddess so he/she manifests in the way that is easiest for my results to be accomplished. Everything is a part of the dreams and creation of God. We can never understand or categorize anything but small limited parts of what he/she is about. I have learned New Age practices and about the Masters in Theosophy. I have learned about Loas in Voodoo. I have been doing this for over thirty years and hopefully I have learned something in that time. Yet I see beginners thinking it is as easy as the shows they watch on TV. I see people using magic in ways which I am sure they would not want used upon them. Many people claim to be shamans and use fancy titles after reading one book. They use fancy names which they do not research, they give spells to others they have made up and never tested. I feel this is part of wanting to be special. All of us are special and people bragging about how evolved they are should not be listened too. It is downright rude to ask someone their level of attainment. If they have a level of attainment then as a person who feels they are psychic you should be able to see it. Listen to your inner self and not your friends. If someone does not feel right to you then do not have them as your guru, teacher or help you. You do not judge by the physical but by the energy signature. Most people know this subconsciously when someone feels off and it is because our inner self reads the energies around them. They will tell us more than anything else what the person is about in their lives. A spell or ritual may work correctly for someone else but may not work for another person. It is always better to write your own prayers, spells and rituals then using anyone else’s. You may look at others work as examples but write your own work. You are on your own path and the names and words used in it should be all your work. You will be amazed at how great you are at doing magic. Now for those of you who just want to do yoga or some other practice that does not have the bad connotations of the occult realize that they have a dual nature also. Yoga has many different paths and some of them would be considered black magic here. The teacher gives you advancement and accepts you into his lineage. Research that lineage before you decide to join it and any path that you might join. No one on this earth knows everything and that includes me. The only one you should accept unconditionally is the forces you worship. Everything else is made by man and should be judged as imperfect. I include all gurus, teachers and anyone born upon this earth in that category. No matter how they advance or what work they do in this world they are also limited by what can be done in this world. Always ask any one who helps you everything about any methods they suggest. I always try to explain it to people and even if they are confused at least they can say that I told them. I do have to keep the methods to myself in some instances and describe them in general. I do this when spirits might be affecting the person and I want to do the methods of healing with out any spirits knowing what I am doing. Yet I always give the person the description of what I am doing and the fact that I am working upon them. I may not give all the details but ask anyone so you at least know in general what is involved and what they are doing. I now shall finish this article with my example. The person who I am talking about is a nice person and believed in the realms of the spirit. He went to a shaman who gave him a method to use to become wealthy. He trusted the shaman and did not ask questions about the forces or how to do this ritual besides the instruction booklet the shaman gave out. He did the ritual and the Shaman and he did another one for a talisman. His whole world turned upside down. He got in touch with me about his problems after he had lost everything including his job. I did my best to help but could not seem to resolve the issue. Yes I know it shows I am not all powerful or perfect. I wish I were so I could help everyone but I do have a good success rate. I had it under control but he still had money problems. He did a ritual again and it was the one that had caused the problems the first time. Do not repeat any ritual or spell that does not feel right twice especially if it seems to reverse and cause opposite results from what was wanted. He did it in an altered state and had horrible results. It opened him up to all time in space to all influences of this spirit. He was having problems and felt he was going crazy. He never did receive any money. He did have his bedroom burn down from a candle while trying to cleanse the room. He now has no money, mad parents and worse problems than he did before. The things to remember here are what things made the ritual go wrong. The first thing is he called upon Egyptian Gods and used ancient Egyptian names. They must be pronounced properly and all of them have a dual nature. They react to people by what they see in the energy signature. They did not care for what he was doing so they are keeping things bad until he improves his life which is what he asked for in the ritual. He wanted to improve his life and become wealthy. The next thing is never do a ritual when you are drunk or stoned. It is more trouble than it is worth as you are not thinking coherently. I have had people tell me how down I am on drugs even those helping others to be psychic. I do not stop people from using them and I wish them success. Yet the ones who complained about this are the very people with problems I have to help. This case mentioned above was not one of those people and he is not a person with real problems. I have had others mention people in magic who did use drugs. Aleister Crowley may have done drugs but you are not him and do not have his advancement. Look at the lives of the people who do this in magic and it is not a happy story. Always banish any forces you call upon and this was not included in the ritual which left an open gateway to what ever energetic realms and dimensions it came from into this one. You should banish all energies before and after a ceremony it is a safety technique and works well for everyone. People may laugh at this fact but I do know that when it happens to you it is not a laughing matter. Next he trusted someone else and their work instead of writing his own ritual. He did this because he was inexperienced and needed someone to help him. Research everything in a ritual so nothing like this can happen to you. Collect more than one ritual or spell if they are others work. All of you have access to the internet and can find many websites with spells. Never do anything which does not feel right to you. The name of the God that was used was also the name of a demon in the Goetia. I know many people are now saying that Christianity changed old Gods into demons. It is not really a demon. Yet there are energies that answer to these names from both sources. It does not matter who did what when as much as getting out of the problems that exist. The spirit left its mark to let him know it caused it. I have used it to remove it so he is on the mend. He is receiving help from others to help heal him to back up my work. I also will not work with others in a case like this as it can backfire badly. You should stick to one healer and have him or her quit work. You can then have others check upon you to be sure all methods and angles of the energy work are covered and the person is healing. Spirituality and magic are not a game. They are not what is shown on TV or the movies. They are a way to improve the inner you and progress in uniting with the forces of creation and God/Goddess. They are to connect to your soul and over come all of the stress and problems of this world. Remember that what happened to this person can happen to anyone. Research the people you go to and have help you. Do not trust anyone who made you feel bad or treated you badly to help. Do not believe anyone is perfect except God. If you put your faith in his existence no matter what name you call him then anyone else is a teacher or guru. You learn from them no matter what happens as a bad teacher will show you what not to do. A good teacher should be a blessing for anyone. I hope this helps everyone.
