It works because Ancestral Spirits respond to symbols more so than words”~Raven The conscious mind is unable to process Magick let alone perform the necessary mind. Which loosely translates to my theory origin of variety. Some concepts in Magick whether ceremonial, sorcery, alchemy or not will come to an end of a pathway and will require a diversity to cross paths with, to complete a life path of Magick that supports and performs on a conscious level. Sigil Magick does not need the conscious mind to comprehend the concept. It targets the subconscious as having the magickal intent so that in an unconscious state the energy from the sigil is manipulating the information to bring about the specific result. Native American Shamans involve a direct link to the Shamans subconscious, which breaks down barriers or walls through extreme disciplines, transcendental meditation, and herbal potions. In Ceremonial Magick the concept and delivery of Magick is a complex system but is also highly effective. However the subconscious mind must be able to automatically adopt and recognize the symbols of the ritual to formulate the effective result. This basis is why teaching has long apprenticements intense education and practices. The subconscious must manipulate the chosen symbols to make them magically charged or powerful. Within Chaos Magick, religious Magick in whatever form is replaced with a passionate performance that taps into the unconscious mind of archetypes that underlie all worldly religious symbolism of humanity. By implementing our ‘active’ imaginations and certain ‘slight of mind’ tricks such as sigils, a Chaos Magickian can breech the barriers of the subconscious with ease rather than force as seen in many Shaman practices; or with Ceremonial Magick which traditionally takes it. Austin Osman Spare wonderful individual with a brilliant mind and unified soul, one whom I regard as an Archangel. A.O Spare was the founder of Sigil Magick methods using the written word. In any of A.O Spare’s works did he ever reveal exactly how this concept of Sigil making came from. Some believe because he was an accomplished Artists and his methodology of watermarks he was able to give birth to written Sigils. Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung in their more recent published works hold more of a foundation or beginning of written Sigil workings (subliminal). Both agree that between the conscious minds stand a safety or release valve a filter that automatically suppresses all illogical thoughts and impressions, which Spare called a psychic censor. “Sigils are monograms of thought, for the Government of energy…a mathematical means of symbolizing desire and giving it form that has the virtue of preventing any thought and association on that particular desire, escaping the detection of the Ergo, so that it does not restrain or attach such desire to its own transitory images, memories, and worries, but allows free passage to the subconscious”- A.O. Spare “The Book of Pleasures” Written Sigil Magick uses its glyphs as a physical bridge to the gap between the conscious and the subconscious minds. With Talismans, and Amulets predetermined symbols such as planetary-astrological, runes are used to create a device that will hold the power to “charm”. The Sigil in this same respect creates the tool, which builds the bridge to the unconscious mind to reach a destination of the written desired effect. The configured Sigil is almost but not always used once and then disregarded, preferably destroyed. In my opinion Sigil Magick has many advantages however of all of them one I believe is the most important. It holds to no particular belief or philosophy. There are no Gods, Spirits, Angels, or Demons to summon, no rays of light or mist to create in an invisible “personal manner”, no great dress rehearsals of circles drawn, erected, and closed. Sigils are just written which requires a pencil and paper. In order to construct a Sigil there are 3 constructive parts that I recommend should be followed: 1- Formulation of Intent 2- Conversion of the sentence to glyph 3- Implantation of glyph to subconscious Intent- Formulation When writing the Intent, the magickian must be concise and not create a story. If you find that you have written several lines resembling a paragraph; break each sentence down by creating smaller sentences meaning the same thing. Continue to do this break down of sentences until you have one very precise, exact simple statement. A.O. Spare begins all of his sentences with ‘THIS IS MY WILL” in all capital letters. Many other Priests drop the prefix all together and go straight to the intent with the same desired results. I believe however a strong declaration is most effective in centering, balancing this format. Production-Conversion Start by writing out the sentence you have broken down to on a piece of paper in all capital letters at the top of the page. You are reserving the space underneath for the actual glyph that will emerge from this sentence. Example: IT IS MY WILL TO EARN ENOUGH MONEY FOR ANOTHER CAR Method One: Take your pencil or pen and X out any letters that repeat themselves X T X S MY W X L X XX XXX X XXX UG X XX N X Y F XX A X XX X XX C X X Leaving you with the remaining letters of: TS MY WL UG NYF A These Letters TSMYWLUGNYFA are then systematically placed together so that each letter links to the next one. I then erase hard lines, round off corners in some instances and create a symbol that may resemble a drawing done by a year old, but I know that this new symbol is the birth of my intent. Method Two: Take your pencil or pen and X out each 3rd letter and each 2nd letter of every other word. Ix xS Mx WIxL T x EAxN E xxUGx MOxEY xxR xNO xHE x C xx Leaving you with the remaining letters of: I S M W I L T E A N E U G M O E Y R N O H E C The left over letters are combined to form one word: ISMWILTEANEUGMOEYRNOHEC A revision to this concept is to take your word if it exceeds 15 letters, is to break it down again using the same format of every 3rd letter, and the 2nd letter of every other word. If you have it formatted as one word, I break it up using a system of 3; every third letter is spaced between the others. IS x Wxx TEx Nxx GMx Exx NxO E x Leaving you with the final remainder of letters: ISWTENGMENOE The final step is to converge these letters into a glyph by connecting all of the letters in each and every form, sideways, upside down, backwards; it does not matter because you are using the letters strictly as a template of free form symbols. After you have completed the Sigil using one of these methods I suggest you throw away the paper, which wrote the initial sentence, and the focus on my new creation, remembering that my subconscious is absorbing the meaning of this Sigil. Charging-Implantation In archaic times a more accurate description of activating a Sigil was when once it was created by its magickian it was given life with energy of the Priest. The key to remember here is to forget the meaning behind your creation to make it work. Many practitioners are fanatical about keeping a written Grimoire of their magickal workings. Grimoires and Books of Shadows are records for the keeping of magickal rituals. A double edge sword was my conclusion. Be very wise and careful you do not stab yourself with your own creations! Mantric Sigils The design of the Sigil is the same whether you choose method one or two, or have adapted one of your own through your own guides. The letters left are formulated as new words to pronounciate. Example: WIS TENG MENOE WIS---sounds like wis as in whistle TENG---sounds like ten g as in girl MEN---sounds like and is pronounced like men OE---sounds like the letter O as in the word Oh Mantric is to fuse deep breathing exercises into a form spoken verbally. Take a deep breath and start with wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssssssssssssssss Take another deep breath and go to teeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng Take another deep breath and end with mmmmmmmmmmeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooo Or if you wish take another breath between MEN and OE Repetition of these pronunciations into a deep slow mantra will infuse the magickal intent as well. Afterwards take your sigil and either burn it in the bonfire or bury it in a secret location.
