The Benefits of Therapeutic Massage

By: ReikiLady

Massage has been documented for thousands of years. The oldest known book written about massage was written by the Chinese about 3000 BC and is titled the "Cong-Fu of the Dao Sei" Hippocrates called massage "rubbing" and documented that rubbing sped up the healing process in humans, especially after surgeries or long illnesses. There are several known and documented health benefits to massage therapy, some that are more well-known than others. Following is a list of the benefits of therapeutic massage:

lowers blood pressure
relieves everyday stress and tension
eases worries and phobias
increases immune system responses
relieves chronic pain without use of chemicals
speeds up the bodies natural healing process
increases your bodies ability to heal itself
facilitates the removal of toxins in your body via body fluid, such as lymph, urine, etc.

Massage is not just for pleasure, but for the health benefits that accompany it. It used to be that massage was looked upon differently than it is today. Today, a Licensed Massage Therapist is more apt to be found in a medical setting or in his/her own practice. Many legitimate day spas also employ Licensed Massage Therapists to provide body work services, such as sea salt scrubs, marine body polishes, signature body wraps and other spa treatments. The cruise ship lines are also places you can find Licensed Massage Therapists. Massage Therapy is more equitable today to wellness, than it has ever been.
