Just to give you an idea on how things work in your favor when it’s the last thing you expect. Now, allow me to set this scene for you. I was living in Florida in a neighborhood far from woods. Nice little suburbanite peachy Floridian neighborhood. With less trees and more peachy colored buildings. The only tree in our yard is what they call a pineapple palm tree. Now, I wanted a wand, I have previously made a walking staff and wanted to get my hands on a wand. I have tons of gemstones, and thought a wand with gemstones set into it, would make a nice wand. I had this all put together in my brain. So needless to say, I took my son to the park, we had a huge nature preserve not far from us, and where can you find sticks a nature preserve. We went hiking through the woods, I found so many different combinations of sticks and branches, but nothing felt right. Its like I was on a scavenger hunt and finding wrappers instead of candy. I walked onto of a huge withered branch, and it came up and slapped me between the eyes. After I was done seeing stars I got so pissed off, I ended up stomping and swearing at the branch. Needless to say, my son thought I was out of my mind! After 4 hours of hiking, I made the decision in the middle of the woods that I needed to go to a different wooded park to find a better selection of branches. Once again my son, said to me. "Mom we are in the woods, you can find a branch" and I responded these are not the right kind.... (((Nutty huh?))) So, we went to another park, which is more or less a playground surrounded by woods and swamp. I went on my scavenger hunt again. Do you ever feel like you are moments away from finding something significant, but you never actually catch up to it? That is what I felt like, the mundane citizens out there were watching this crazy lady dressed in all black talking to trees, and insisting that the wand I needed was out here. It was now sundown. I never found the branch. At this point I gave it a day... ((Talk about patience, can you tell I am lacking that department?) An I was convinced I will never find this branch. So the next day I went about my day as I usually did, except I was looking around parking lots and odd places for this branch to appear. Finally my son came home from school all excited, saying mommy I found your branch. My eyes lit up and said where is it? He gave me a twig and said this will work right? I looked at him and said, umm, I can break that in-between my fingers. So I gave up. And gave my wise words for the day to my son and said. When I am ready for such a gift of Nature is when I will receive my wand... And left it at that. Allow me to remind you how much patience I have, in saying although these wise words flow from me, at times like this one, I wasn't convinced either... So the day and night went on, and the next day I awoke in the same way I usually do, rushing to get things done before going to work, getting him to school, and never thought about the branch again. It was about 3pm and I was home from work, doing laundry ( eeewwww), getting ready to make dinner, working on articles for RHSSC as usual. And I had this sudden urge to go check the mail. Why? I have no idea, I was not expecting anything special, but nonetheless I wanted to go down to the mailbox. So I opened my front door. And what was laying there on our tile walkway???? A branch! I was amazed.... It definitely did not fall from any tree; there was none around to fall from. Nor did it break off from anything near by. The closest tree was in our backyard. It was as if someone just put it there. The branch is about 14 inches long, and about 1 1/2 inches in diameter around in areas. It has 4 knots on it from either other branches, or to re-grow other branches. It was perfect. However being the nutty one I am, I preceded with caution in taking the first 3 steps in picking it up. Sort of like prowling the enemy before making the attack... The sun was blazing hot, and beaming right on me (((eeeeeewwwwww)))) and I for some reason hesitated. I replayed in my head the events of trying to find one, and thought how the hell did this end up here. Anyway, I did pick it up, and finally I felt like the chase was over, and I found what I was seeking. I found out while I began to work on it, that its cedar wood. Cedar shavings smell divine; my tools for working on my wand were very simple. I used my criss dagger, and sandpaper. I peeled the bark off, exposed the cedar, and sanded it all down, even the in-between where the knots were. I gathered all my favorite gemstones- Quartz, Rose Quartz, Amethyst, Tigers Eye, Obsidian, and Onyx and placed them in certain areas around the wand, with an epoxy. (Strong stuff, almost poxied my hand to the wand permanently) At one point there was plenty of room to place larger Quartz, and so I did, this way you can point and aim it. After the stones were in place, I used my artistic skills and painted symbols that I use in my witchy affairs, along with tribal markings on the wand in sections. These symbols ranged from the sun/moon. Earth/air/fire/water, goddess/god, and some runes. All the symbols were put together to work with each other, not against each other. By the time the sunset for that night, I had a wonderful new wand, and no dinner, nor clean laundry. But I was happy, and thanked the great mother for her generous gift.
