“Live all you can; it’s a mistake not to. It doesn’t so much matter what you do in particular so long as you have had your life. The right time is any time that one is still so lucky as to live." - Henry James Being aware means really paying attention to what’s going on in your life right now. Most people are on automatic pilot most of the time. This may be necessary, but they won't make the effort to absorb what's going on around them. I believe this is a terrible mistake—the equivalent of wasting your life, of losing your life. Your life is all you have, and the time you have for it is undetermined. If you're aware of very little each day of your life, in the end it won’t add up to much. The “life story” you remember will seem all too brief. And there'll be no way to undo the mistake. In a busy life, it may be hard to find the time to “live all you can.” It may seem like you don’t have enough time for what you have to do. Everyday life may seem like drudgery—not really living. It may distress you when life seems to pass you by, and you may not be sure what to do about it. So awareness isn't easy. It takes a real effort. You need to be strong as a person to achieve it. Your life may be long, or it may be short. At some point, your time will be over. Deep down, you know you don't want to waste your life. You deserve a life filled with wonderful memories. Only you can accomplish this for yourself. Seek new experiences, pay vivid attention to what happens, and enjoy these events intensely. At the end of any day you choose, you can be glad for it. In the end a life can seem like one, long boring afternoon. Or it can seem like a thousand years.
