Hardwood flooring has its own unique visual appeal but protecting it from damages is a major challenge. Over time the floor is bound to wear out, even more so if you have children or pets. To make your wooden floor resistant to everyday wears and tears, it is a worthwhile idea to invest in floor paint made specially to protect your valuable wooden floor. Exterior wood paint will make your hardwood floor look shiny and smooth while making it resistant to scratches and knocks. Using Wood Primer before painting on wooden surfaces is a good precaution to take. Applying floor paint to your hardwood wooden floor is an easy process and you can do it all by yourself. First of all, you will need to prepare your floor for colouring. Step 1: All existing coatings must be removed and the surface sanded back to a smooth finish – Do not use an abrasive paper finer than 120 grade. Step 2 - Knock in any nails Step 2 – Fill any holes or imperfections with a woodfiller. Step 3 – Allow dust to settle then vacuum Step 4 – Wipe over with white spirit and allow to dry thoroughly. Step 5 – Apply in a warm and well ventilated room You will have to ensure that the knots in the wood are sealed. Floor paint can be applied with a roller, brush or a pad. A pad generally holds more paint that a brush making application of paint an easier process. A pad covers the floor in longer smoother strokes. Dip the pad evenly into the paint, ensuring only the flock is covered and pull it towards you, in the direction of the wood grain. Apply a minimum of 2 coats, allowing 4-6 hours before re-coating. Once dry, not only will your floor have the perfect finish, it will also be resistant to flaking, peeling and chipping and maintaining its finish for longer. Choosing the right floor paint is important, a good floor paint will ensure that your floor is resistant to water, oil and household chemicals and easy to wipe clean.
